Turambar - Dhatura

Pretty heavy and really solid doom metal from Denver, Colorado

500 ft. of Pipe - The Electrifying Church of the New Light

Hailing from Detroit rock city, 500 ft of Pipe is a throw back to what straight forward rock n roll was all about. I think of Iggy & the Stooges and MC5 when I listen these guys. Don't take my word for it, here is a quote from stonerrock.com

If you like the energy and drive of MC5, get a hold of this CD, you won't be disappointed. If you never have listened to the MC5 or 500 Ft. of Pipe, then I feel sorry for you. Do yourself a favor and pick up this CD so you can hear what really good straightforward pot drenched rock and roll sounds like. Over and out."

Yawning Sons - Ceremony to Sunset

This is the debut album from Yawning Sons, a collaboration between Californian desert rock legend Gary Arce of Yawning Man and the UK’s Sons of Alpha Centauri, released by Australia’s Lexicon Devil. Expect on this platter (mostly) instrumental experimental post-rock psychedelic hypnosis, with guest vocal spots from Fatso Jetson’s Mario Lalli, Wendy Rae Fowler (Mark Lanegan Band) and Scott Reeder.

This is just great chill out music!

Whitebuzz - Book of Whyte

Here's a great stoner/doom metal band from Germany.  Four tracks plus a hidden track averaging at 15 minutes per song...great piece of material here.

Pontiak - Sun on Sun

"Pontiak sound like heavy rock heard in the first flush of life, during the glow of the first hit...Without ever sounding contrived or forced they manage to switch effortlessly between howling Comets On Fire rock psychedelia, monolithic Sabbath doom, and bucolic campfire strummery" --The Quietus

Moab - The Dimensioner

Moab is a Los Angeles based doom metal band.  I was fortunate enough to have seen them open for Ufomammut last year.  This was the only youtube video featuring Moab.

The Deep Blue - Antarctic Abyss

"OK, these guys sound a lot like Sleep. A LOT. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that they sound a lot like Om, the post-Sleep power duo of Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, 'cuz The Deep Blue do a similiar drone-chord pound over Tibetan chanting thing. Of course, The Deep Blue are a guitar, bass and drums trio, so the sound is more downtuned and crunchy and sludgy, but if there was ever a need to hear what Om would sound like as a full band, then The Deep Blue are here to serve." - myspace.com

Ufomammut Discography

Ufomammut is a power trio formed in 1999 in Italy by Poia, Urlo and Vita.

Horseback - The Invisible Mountain

Horseback's 'The Invisible Mountain' is an intensely heavy psychedelic, post-metallic, kraut-rock journey. The guitars buzz, drone, and twang, the drums are powerful and tight, the instruments locked into slow burning build ups with sparse brutal vocals rasping for breath. Horseback manages to straddle polar opposites of the musical spectrum, possessed evil and pure blissful beauty, oftentimes within a single song.

Black Math Horseman - Wyllt

Call it ambient post-doom. Call it alchemic psych-rock, only without all those annoying free form guitar freak outs. Call it "pure spirits by ritual dismemberment". This LA group's debut is a discovery about to be made.

Sleep - Holy Mountain

Welcome to §uperjunkhead, where I'll post some of my favorite bands straight from my music library.  What a better way to start off my music blog than with this reissue of the most classic stoner album.

Sleep helped define the term stoner rock with the release of Holy Mountain in 1992 and have since earned legendary status, despite splitting in 1995. The band members have since gone on to form OM: and HIGH ON FIRE.  Look out for Sleep on tour this fall...yes, they've reunited for a full U.S. tour.
