Coming from Italy...an avant-garde prog doom metal fusion going on here that is nearly impossible to describe, its heavy but the songs are maybe too abstract. I enjoyed about 90% of the album...hence why I am posting it..it's worth a listen!

"Hailed by many as the best Finnish sludge/doom album of 2008, this is the debut work of Dark Buddha Rising. Two heavy slabs of black vinyl, the other presenting the heavy psychedelic doom side of the band and the other going deeper into esoteric droney expression."
Nadja is a duo of Aidan Baker (guitars/vocals/piano/woodwinds/drums) andLeah Buckareff (bass/vocals). Nadja began in 2003 as a solo project for Baker to explore the heavier/noisier side of his experimental/ambient musicperformed mainly on the electric guitar. In 2005 Buckareff joined in order to make the project more than just a studio endeavour and to allow Nadja to perform live.
The duo combines soundscape, electronics and atmospheric vocals with slow, epic riffs and dirge-like percussion, creating a slowly moving grand wall of music that has been described as drone, ambient-doom, andshoegazer-metal. Aidan noted that they prefer to call their style of music "ambient metal" or "ambient doom", though he's fond of the term "dreamsludge" as well.
Bliss Torn from Emptiness is the fifth full length album by drone doomband Nadja, first released on June 15, 2005 by Fargone Records. This album consists of one 48 minute instrumental track, also this edition of the album was limited to only 60 copies.
The album was later remastered and rereleased by Profound Lore Records, this version of the album was released on January 29, 2008, and has been slightly extended to 53 minutes and split into 3 parts that fade into one another and maintain the intent of the album being one long song. - Wiki

Hailing from Detroit rock city, 500 ft of Pipe is a throw back to what straight forward rock n roll was all about. I think of Iggy & the Stooges and MC5 when I listen these guys. Don't take my word for it, here is a quote from stonerrock.com

This is the debut album from Yawning Sons, a collaboration between Californian desert rock legend Gary Arce of Yawning Man and the UK’s Sons of Alpha Centauri, released by Australia’s Lexicon Devil. Expect on this platter (mostly) instrumental experimental post-rock psychedelic hypnosis, with guest vocal spots from Fatso Jetson’s Mario Lalli, Wendy Rae Fowler (Mark Lanegan Band) and Scott Reeder.
This is just great chill out music!

I found these guys thanks to Tim @ Angrierchairs when he had posted them as his latest obsession, since then they have been one of mine. Graveyard is a hard rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden formed in 2006.
Stoner/sludge metallers from Canada. I really dig this album and it has been in my normal rotation of listening pleasures since I discovered them earlier this year. They are embarking on a West Coast tour this fall.

"Pontiak sound like heavy rock heard in the first flush of life, during the glow of the first hit...Without ever sounding contrived or forced they manage to switch effortlessly between howling Comets On Fire rock psychedelia, monolithic Sabbath doom, and bucolic campfire strummery" --The Quietus

Om is a duo formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of the disbanded stoner doom metal band Sleep. The band's first three albums feature Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Chris Hakius on drums, Emil Amos from the band Grails has since replaced Hakius. Their music is similar in structure to Tibetan chanting.
"OK, these guys sound a lot like Sleep. A LOT. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that they sound a lot like Om, the post-Sleep power duo of Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, 'cuz The Deep Blue do a similiar drone-chord pound over Tibetan chanting thing. Of course, The Deep Blue are a guitar, bass and drums trio, so the sound is more downtuned and crunchy and sludgy, but if there was ever a need to hear what Om would sound like as a full band, then The Deep Blue are here to serve." - myspace.com

Horseback's 'The Invisible Mountain' is an intensely heavy psychedelic, post-metallic, kraut-rock journey. The guitars buzz, drone, and twang, the drums are powerful and tight, the instruments locked into slow burning build ups with sparse brutal vocals rasping for breath. Horseback manages to straddle polar opposites of the musical spectrum, possessed evil and pure blissful beauty, oftentimes within a single song.

Call it ambient post-doom. Call it alchemic psych-rock, only without all those annoying free form guitar freak outs. Call it "pure spirits by ritual dismemberment". This LA group's debut is a discovery about to be made.
Welcome to §uperjunkhead, where I'll post some of my favorite bands straight from my music library. What a better way to start off my music blog than with this reissue of the most classic stoner album.
Sleep helped define the term stoner rock with the release of Holy Mountain in 1992 and have since earned legendary status, despite splitting in 1995. The band members have since gone on to form OM: and HIGH ON FIRE. Look out for Sleep on tour this fall...yes, they've reunited for a full U.S. tour.
